iApple
Some people might call me an Apple fan boy. I’ve used Mac computers for work as a graphic designer for over a decade. At home I use both an iMac and a re-purposed hand me down PC. I’ve seen pros and cons for both platforms but over all just feel more comfortable on a Mac. Really my PC is used much like an Xbox or a PS3 and is a game box.
I do use an iPhone. It was an upgrade from an iPod. Even with all the apps and 3G web surfing goodness of the phone the biggest selling point to me was it did away with a device.
I use to carry a cell phone and an iPod. It is a funny thing to carry a phone for no reason but to text my wife. I rarely get calls but adopted carrying a phone because my wife wanted me to be safe. I live in Alaska and the roads can sometimes become a hazardous. My wife worries I’ll get stuck and need a phone.
Once I got it we, my wife and I, became strangely addicted to texting each other.
I also loved my iPod, but not as a music player. I love audio books, dramas, old time radio, whatever you want to call it. So the iPod gave me a world of entertainment from podcasts, audible.com books, and a host of audio MP3s available out there.
So when the iPhone came out it managed to merge a device I “needed” with a device that saved my sanity I was in. First problem was living in Alaska we had no ATT and I was under contract to another company. That was fine I like the idea of waiting a bit before buying new tech after the purchase of my first DVD player a month after they where released for $600 only to buy one a year later that worked so much better for $150.
So a year past and ATT came to Alaska, my contract was done and my awesome wife bought the 3G iPhone for me for our anniversary.
So love it or hate it the iPhone has been here a few years and it has really changed what a cell phone or smart phone can do.
So now it is early 2010 the iPad is the big news these says and although it seems shiny I’m not seeing much of a need for me. If they had made a hybrid Mac Book/ iPad like the Lenovo U1 that was announced at CES this year I’ll love that, but another device, who needs it.
What I really want is to hear about the 4th gen iPhones. My contract is is this year and it is time for the latest greatest but no new word yet. A load of rumors flutters around the Internet but I don’t put much stock in rumors. The other thing I really want is a mid range Mac computer. The Mac pros are great but way over priced and I really am not a fan of the iMac line. What I want is something like a fat Mac Mini. A desktop that allows me to relace the video card. Something akin to the Mac G3s or G4 of years past.
The iMac is pretty, and a nice all in one computer, but it really is just a laptop without the battery.
So even though I enjoy Apple products I don’t care for the Apple TV, for a couple hundred bucks more you can get a full featured Mac Mini, I don’t really see a need for the iPad although the cool factor would make me keep one if I got one as a gift.
So can I really be classified as an Apple fan boy?
